Autism Inclusion Teacher at Marryatville Primary School
This is an initiative that has made a real difference to families like mine, who for so long were calling for support for our neurodivergent children, and now, because of this excellent initiative, we have the support and the understanding our families, and more importantly, our children need.
Vehicle Parking and Urban Renewal Bill
The Statutes Amendment (Vehicle Parking and Urban Renewal) Bill 2025 is thoughtful, evidence based legislation. It respects the need for more housing, safeguards affordability, and ensures that cars are stored actually more safely, in appropriate, practical spaces rather than congesting our streets. It integrates planning and urban renewal tools, provides a funding mechanism for public infrastructure, and reflects the realities of modern vehicle ownership.
Scrap Metal Dealers Bill
This is an important piece of legislation that responds to issues that are growing across South Australia—issues that are affecting ordinary Australians, local businesses, sporting clubs and, in fact, entire communities.
Marryatville in Concert 2025
From the opening sequence, it was clear that this was not just a concert but a celebration of discipline, creativity, and joy. The science of music is as inspiring as the sound. Learning an instrument strengthens memory, problem-solving, and spatial reasoning. It literally builds new pathways in the brain. Singing in a choir develops not only pitch and rhythm but teamwork, empathy, and the ability to listen deeply, skills that spill over into academic learning and life itself.
Environment and Food Production Areas Bill
This Bill is part of a broader, coordinated effort to prepare South Australia for the future. By ensuring our planning system is responsive, our housing supply is sustainable, our heritage is preserved, and our infrastructure is strategically developed, we are protecting what makes our communities unique while ensuring they remain vibrant and liveable for generations to come.
Remembrance Day
On Remembrance Day, we remember all the brave men and women who, many years ago and still today, have stood up to protect our country and the people we love. These are soldiers, sailors, aviators, nurses, and other helpers who worked hard and, sometimes, gave their lives to keep us safe and free.
Victim Impact Statements Bill
A Victim Impact Statement can help the court understand how a crime has affected the victim and may be considered by the judge or magistrate as they determine the penalty to be given to the offender. In my work as a mediator, I frequently witnessed the restorative value of finally just being heard.
Children and Young People (Safety and Support) Bill
As a parent myself and probably just like any other member of society, frankly, we are all devastated whenever we hear of the neglect or harm inflicted on a child by people who are supposed to provide a loving and safe environment for their child to grow and thrive. This Bill has been designed to create a legislative foundation and framework for profound and significant change. Change that ensures that the child protection system has at its core a focus on the safety and support of the child, while of course retaining that which is working well.
Celebrating Mayor Bria’s 20th year of service
When Robert was first elected 28 years ago, he was referred to by somebody as 'that kid'. Nearly three decades later, 'that kid' is one of South Australia's longest serving mayors and has proven himself time and again as a leader of substance, humility and vision.
World Teachers Day
My electorate has many excellent schools, both public and private such as East Adelaide, Norwood Primary, and Trinity Gardens Schools, Prince Alfred College and St Peters College, and just outside my electorate, but for which the catchment is largely in my electorate, the outstanding Marryatville High School. Teachers are the often the unsung heroes who inspire enthusiasm and curiosity, foster creativity, and instil a love of learning that can last a lifetime. Teachers are essential in ensuring that every child is given the best possible chance to fulfill their dreams and aspirations.
National Family Business Day
I know first-hand that running a family business is not simply a matter of trading goods or services. It is a life, a livelihood and, often, a legacy.
Vietnam Veteran’s Day
Vietnam Veterans Day, observed on 18 August, is marked on the anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan – a moment etched into our military history.
International Force for East Timor
I honour the Veterans who deployed as part of INTERFET and all our Veterans and current Defence members and I thank them for their service.
Greek Orthodox Archdiocese Community and Parish of Prophet Elias Norwood
The Parish is strong and unified. I feel blessed to know those who I know already, and excited to meet those I’ve not yet met. Long may Prophet Elias Norwood continue to be a place of worship, fellowship, and charity for generations to come.
Australian Dance Theatre 60th Anniversary
South Australia’s arts sector is an economic powerhouse! It employs thousands of people, attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors, and contributes over $1.1 billion to our economy.
Importance of CIBO Cafes
Cibo represents a fantastic South Australian small business success story, and it is iconic to our state’s multiculturalism, and the outstanding success of our Italian community. It represents passion and community.
Local Icon: Rising Sun
As we raise a figurative glass to the Rising Sun Inn, let us celebrate all that it represents—craftsmanship, community, heritage and continuity, and the joy of gathering together. May it stand for 180 years more, with patrons warmed by its fireplaces with a delicious glass of red, filled with conversation, and cherished as one of the great survivors of South Australian history.
AFL Gather Round Statement
This is exactly the kind of smart strategic investment that supports local jobs, energises small business and strengthens South Australia's reputation as a destination for world-class events.
Plastic Shopping Bags (Waste Avoidance) Repeal Bill
The final stage will be this year when as of 1 September 2025, plastic fruit stickers, plastic soy sauce fish and prepackaged and attached products such as products that contain plastic straws or cutlery will be phased out. I have to say I personally will be thrilled when an alternative is found to those little fruit and veg stickers which I am a bit obsessed with picking off fruit and veg as soon as I buy it. Of course, in undertaking this exercise in bringing our use of single-use plastics into the modern age, extensive consultation was carried out, including with specific stakeholders expected to be directly impacted by the amendment regulations and the South Australian public with the overwhelming number of respondents expressing their strong support, including that of business owners.
Passenger Transport (Point to Point Transport Services) Amendment Bill
The reforms before us today are not just about updating regulations, they are about ensuring every South Australian has access to reliable, safe and efficient transport services. They are about supporting an industry through necessary change while protecting the interests of vulnerable consumers. I commend this bill to the house.
