ANZAC Day Motion

2 April 2025

ANZAC Day is not just a date in history: it is a living commemoration of the values that define us as Australians. It is time to renew our collective pledge: to honour the past, to care for our veterans, and to strive for peace in the future. In supporting this motion, I hope we reaffirm our commitment to remembrance, gratitude, and the ongoing care of those who have served. Lest we forget.

Select Committee on Endometriosis

20 March 2025

The committee has put forward a number of recommendations to improve the way we diagnose, treat and manage endometriosis in South Australia. We need to tackle the long delays in diagnosis. We need to support the professionals already providing dedicated and effective multidisciplinary care, where general practitioners work alongside specialists, nurses and allied health professionals. We need to ensure we provide the framework that enables the sorely needed additional dedicated multidisciplinary endometriosis clinics, particularly in public hospitals.

Statutes Amendment (Heritage) Bill

6 March 2025

One of the most important aspects of this legislation is the mandatory public consultation period. Every South Australian deserves a voice in decisions that affect our shared heritage. This is not just about procedure. It is about recognising that our heritage belongs to all of us. Public consultation has already proved invaluable in other heritage matters, such as the provisional entry of places into the Heritage Register. It often brings to light historical information, community connections and cultural values that might otherwise have been overlooked.

Passenger Transport (Point to Point Transport Services) Amendment Bill

18 February 2025

The reforms before us today are not just about updating regulations, they are about ensuring every South Australian has access to reliable, safe and efficient transport services. They are about supporting an industry through necessary change while protecting the interests of vulnerable consumers. I commend this bill to the house.

ICAC (Conditions of Appointment - Integrity Measures) Amendment Bill

18 February 2025

This legislation sends a clear message: we value the independence and integrity of our anti-corruption commission. By ensuring appropriate remuneration and security for those who take on this crucial role, we strengthen the commission's ability to serve the people of South Australia without fear or favour. The appointment of Commissioner Townsend marks a new chapter in South Australia's fight against corruption. This bill ensures she and all future commissioners can fulfil their duties with the same independence and security as their predecessors.

Plastic Shopping Bags (Waste Avoidance) Repeal Bill

5 February 2025

The final stage will be this year when as of 1 September 2025, plastic fruit stickers, plastic soy sauce fish and prepackaged and attached products such as products that contain plastic straws or cutlery will be phased out. I have to say I personally will be thrilled when an alternative is found to those little fruit and veg stickers which I am a bit obsessed with picking off fruit and veg as soon as I buy it. Of course, in undertaking this exercise in bringing our use of single-use plastics into the modern age, extensive consultation was carried out, including with specific stakeholders expected to be directly impacted by the amendment regulations and the South Australian public with the overwhelming number of respondents expressing their strong support, including that of business owners.

Remembrance Day

13 November 2024

On Remembrance Day, we remember all the brave men and women who, many years ago and still today, have stood up to protect our country and the people we love. These are soldiers, sailors, aviators, nurses, and other helpers who worked hard and, sometimes, gave their lives to keep us safe and free.

World Teachers Day

12 November 2024

My electorate has many excellent schools, both public and private such as East Adelaide, Norwood Primary, and Trinity Gardens Schools, Prince Alfred College and St Peters College, and just outside my electorate, but for which the catchment is largely in my electorate, the outstanding Marryatville High School. Teachers are the often the unsung heroes who inspire enthusiasm and curiosity, foster creativity, and instil a love of learning that can last a lifetime. Teachers are essential in ensuring that every child is given the best possible chance to fulfill their dreams and aspirations.

Children and Young People (Safety and Support) Bill

29 October 2024

As a parent myself and probably just like any other member of society, frankly, we are all devastated whenever we hear of the neglect or harm inflicted on a child by people who are supposed to provide a loving and safe environment for their child to grow and thrive. This Bill has been designed to create a legislative foundation and framework for profound and significant change. Change that ensures that the child protection system has at its core a focus on the safety and support of the child, while of course retaining that which is working well.

Greyhound Industry Reform Inspector Bill

16 October 2024

Now as someone who has owned dogs all my life, both as pets and working dogs on my farm, I can’t fathom the need, let alone the want, to treat dogs in this way. Dogs by their very nature want to please their owners, and will do their best to do what they think it is, you want them to do. Mr Speaker, in my mind, it is always a blight on an industry that involves animals, that they require a game keeper, or an overseer, to ensure they behave in an ethical and humane manner, but here we are. This Bill establishes a Greyhound Industry Reform Inspector to oversee the implementation of the recommendations from the Independent Inquiry into the Governance of the Greyhound Racing Industry.

Office for Early Childhood Development Bill

26 September 2024

Being a mother of four children, I feel well placed to speak to the extraordinary importance of early childhood education. Anyone who has experienced a toddler knows that learning to regulate their emotions and to interact with their peers in an appropriate way are crucial to their learning experience. This Bill provides the legislative mandate for the Office to provide statewide, strategic oversight and direction of the early childhood system, and to collaborate and engage with the many organisations and people who intersect in the early years of a child’s life.

Small Business Commission and Retail Commercial Leases Bill

25 September 2024

I want to acknowledge the many small businesses in my electorate: the many cafes, restaurants, pubs and bars, gift shops, clothes shops, homeware shops, professionals and many more. We understand the difficult business environment you are currently operating in. This bill seeks to provide small businesses with the support they need to overcome some of the challenges they may face, which can mean the difference between success or failure, and to support their growth and resilience.

28 August 2024

We know that people are stakeholders in their community, and this government recognises that. I want to thank the many people in my community who continue to raise with me their concern for protecting these beautiful, historic examples of our built environment, and assure them that I am passionate about protecting these parts of our state and our community's story and will continue to be their voice.

2024 State Budget

14 May 2024

This is why I am so proud of a number of important initiatives in my electorate under the visionary leadership of Premier Peter Malinauskas and Minister Chris Picton. The first is the establishment of a state-of-the-art ambulance station located on the corner of Magill Road and Portrush Road. The construction of this ambulance station signifies more than just bricks and mortar; it symbolises our dedication to ensuring swift and efficient emergency responses for those in need. It also recognises the importance of investing in the health and wellbeing of our constituents and the wider community.
